FAQ

Everything You Need To Know
Before Getting Started.

We believe in full transparency. Every question authors ask us before, during, and after working with us is answered here — and if yours isn't, contact us directly.

Getting Started

7 entries

We get independently published ebooks into digital library catalogs. That means auditing where your book currently stands, rebuilding its metadata for library discovery, setting up the distribution route libraries can buy from, and pitching your title directly to library systems and consortiums.

Independent and self-published authors, and small presses with a handful of titles. We are not a fit for authors under a traditional publishing contract, since the publisher already controls library distribution.

None at all. Most of our authors have never opened an aggregator dashboard. That's the point of the service — we handle the procedural side and explain each step in plain language.

Uploading makes your book available. It does not make it discoverable or acquired. Libraries buy from catalog records with correct subject headings, and most acquisitions still come from a librarian being told the book exists. We do the cataloging and the telling.

Most adult and YA fiction and non-fiction. Mystery, thriller, romance, sci-fi and fantasy, true crime, self-help, biography, health, history, and business are our strongest categories. See the Genres page for detail.

Yes. We are fully remote and place books into library networks across North America, Europe, Australia, and beyond. OverDrive alone reaches libraries in 115 countries.

Yes — your ebook should be finished, edited, and published in at least one storefront. Library placement works with a real, complete title, not a manuscript.

Our Process

We start with the digital library audit, then send you a written assessment and scope. Once you approve, cataloging begins immediately, distribution follows, and outreach runs on a scheduled cadence.

A full placement campaign typically runs eight to twelve weeks. The audit and cataloging happen in the first two to three weeks; the rest is distribution, outreach, and waiting on library buying cycles.

Lightly. You send your book details up front, approve the scope, and answer occasional questions. Everything else is our work.

We write them. Descriptions, subject headings, and pitch materials are all produced by our team, then shared with you before anything goes out.

It's normal, and it's rarely final. Budgets close, collections fill, priorities shift. We log the response and re-approach in the next cycle, or redirect effort to better-matched systems.

Yes. Multi-title and backlist work is handled under our publisher plan, where cataloging is done as a batch and outreach runs on a rolling calendar.

Your title, author name, ISBN if you have one, genre, current platforms, your Kindle Unlimited status, and a copy of the ebook file.

Digital Platforms

OverDrive, through its Libby and Sora apps, is the largest digital library network in the world — over 92,000 libraries and schools. A placement there is a purchased licence, and the record stays live for years.

Hoopla has no holds queues. Any patron can borrow instantly, and the library pays per checkout. It rewards high-volume, bingeable categories like romance, true crime, and self-help.

No. Getting you onto them is the job.

Libraries buy licences — one copy, one user, or a metered licence with a checkout or time limit. Each licence is a paid sale, often above retail price, and popular titles trigger repeat purchases.

The library pays a fee each time a patron borrows the title. Individual amounts are smaller than an OverDrive licence, but volume can be considerably higher.

No. Being in a platform's catalog makes you available for libraries to license; each individual system still chooses what to acquire. That's exactly why direct outreach matters.

On Hoopla, effectively yes once a system carries it. On OverDrive and cloudLibrary, only after a library purchases a licence.

Your Book

EPUB is the standard for library distribution. If you only have a different format, we'll tell you what conversion is needed.

Strongly recommended, and required by some routes. Libraries catalog by identifier, and a title without one is harder to acquire and track.

It can be. Acquisition librarians use the cover as a first quality signal. We'll tell you honestly if yours is likely to hold the book back.

We rewrite it for library discovery as part of the metadata work — that's included, not an add-on.

No. KU requires digital exclusivity, which blocks library distribution outright. You'd need to let enrolment lapse first, and we'll explain the timing.

Place the series. Library readers who finish book one look for book two immediately, and incomplete series data is one of the most common reasons borrowers drop off.

Earnings & Royalties

6 entries

Through your existing distributor. Libraries pay the platform, the platform pays your aggregator, and your aggregator pays you — the same royalty channel as retail sales.

Pricing depends on scope, from a single-platform starter engagement to a full multi-platform campaign or a catalog-wide plan. Send us your details and we'll quote precisely.

It varies enormously by genre, catalog size, and how many systems acquire the title. We won't invent a number for you. What we will do is explain the lending models honestly so you can judge the upside yourself.

Your aggregator pays you on its normal royalty schedule. Libracle never handles your royalties and never takes a cut of them.

Yes — every licence purchase and, on Hoopla, every circulation flows into your royalties.

Catalog records are long-lived, so library income tends to be steadier than retail spikes. Growth usually comes from more systems acquiring the title and from additional books in a series.

Results & Reporting

5 entries

You get a placement report listing each platform and library system, with live catalog links you can open and verify yourself.

Because you can check every one. A live catalog record is public. We report nothing we can't link to.

Platforms secured, library systems and consortiums, live listing links, availability status, checkout data where the platform exposes it, and recommended next steps.

Ongoing reporting is included on multi-title and publisher plans, and available as an add-on for single-title campaigns.

We'll look at why — genre fit, cover, description, series gaps, or simply which systems carry it — and tell you what would realistically change the outcome, even when the answer isn't another purchase from us.

Refund Policy

4 entries

We offer a 30-day work guarantee: if we have not begun your placement work within 30 days of your engagement starting, you get a full refund. Once cataloging, distribution, and outreach work has been performed, that work is not refundable.

Because acquisition timing sits with the library, not with us. Our work is the audit, cataloging, distribution, and outreach — all of which is delivered whether a given system buys this quarter or the next.

No, and no honest service can. We guarantee the work, the standards we hold it to, and verifiable proof of every placement we do secure.

Send us a message with the subject line 'Refund Request' and include your book title. We respond to refund requests within 48 hours.
